About This Work:
This self-portrait represents a bent and broken body and mind, a medically disabled woman floating through a life of treatment, hospitalization, physical deformation, and pain. The green "belt" is the banded feeling (sometimes as extreme as barbed wire-ish) that accompanies my disorder. The contraption from my chest is a central line, or permacath, which is used for part of my treatment. I have had at least 10 of these implant surgeries, and currently I've had the same permacath since November because my jugular and subclavicular veins have collapsed from overuse. I'd be happy to share more about my feelings, catalysts, and impressions of this work with you. Also, I usually paint small. This is a rare painting in this size. Thank you for reading and viewing.
